Ride Description
2025 Micro-Tour 2 was our 2nd bikepacking trip of the season, that featured a great crew and the most intense temperature/weather swings I've ever toured in

This bikepacking trip left at 7am from lower Manhattan in about 60 degree weather, with the temperature eventually rising to 81 degrees by the time we completed our 58 mile ride to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.

We headed north on the Empire State Trail (known locally as the Couth County and North County Trailway), through Elmsford, over the Croton Reservoir and past Katonah. For bikepacking out of New York City, this is a great, safe route north.

The last 6 miles brought us hills and some gravel before we arrived at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation at 3:30pm. Since it was kind of chilly, we got a campfire started right away.

Although it had climbed to 81 degrees by the time we got to camp, we all knew that rain and cold were coming...so we enjoyed the weather as long as we could

The rain rolled in around 9pm, sending campers scurrying to their tents for the evening. The temperatures kept dropping overnight, with a wake-up temp of 39 degrees

On Sunday morning, we got the group rolling at around 8:30am. It was a brisk, chilly ride on the 6 miles back into Katonah, where a decent amount of the group decided to take the train home.
The remainder of the ride back to NYC was cold and a bit misty, but it was a success as everyone made it home safe and sound

Ride Data and Maps

The data the primarily concerns me on a bikepacking trip is my average moving speed, and our overall ride time (including stops).
Weather
I have been using the Epic Ride Weather App for awhile now...its great as it gives you weather as you are traversing along a route

This is a collection of things that I wouldn't be caught without on any of our bikepacking trips. I have led over 150 group bikepacking trips, and have developed an affinity for things that just work.
The list may grow or shrink, but will always contain items that have been tested on many, many bikepacking trips. Every one of these items is packed in my bags on every bikepacking trip I go on.
