Micro-Tour 1 was a 58 mile self-supported ride from NYC to our campsite at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Katonah, NY. Riders returned to NYC the next day.
I'm not going to lie...Day 1 of Micro-Tour 1 was a slog.
Starting at 7am from lower Manhattan in 40 degree weather, the group battled colder temperatures and a headwind for the entire ride. We introduced 2 new "test" routes late in the ride (as we had a pretty skilled group that could handle it), but it added a ton of elevation gain.
We arrive at camp at 3:30pm (which is at the later end of my usual ETA spectrum). It was a windy set-up for tents and campfire, but it all got done
The group hung out and ate (and drank a little), with most folks turning in at 9pm due to such a long day.
The overnight lows were in the mid-30's. I decided this season to have the leave time at 9 am (instead of our traditional 8), which led to a less frantic and more enjoyable morning campsite
The riding weather on Sunday was picture-perfect
